The heat is on. Your boss has given you the crucial task of organising the company end of year function and it needs to be amazing! After choosing your date and working out your guest list, your next mission is to book a space.
Not a simple task, considering the abundance of function venues in Melbourne. Stay calm and check out our easy tips for finding the perfect corporate Christmas party location! They will make you the toast of your office and the next in line for a promotion. A few simple questions will help you find your ultimate function space.
How many guests will attend?
This information is critical as it will start to narrow down the list.
What are your brand values?
Work through what style of venue will suit your brand (think brownie points with the boss for nailing this one). For example, a high end law firm that is entertaining their top clients will generally work well with an exclusive venue with chic styling such as SpACE @ Collins. If your company values are family orientated, perhaps a day time event with gourmet BBQ and face painting for the kids is more in line with your brand.
Who is attending your event?
If you haven’t organised your company Christmas function before, it may help to ask around and get an understanding of who will be attending. Perhaps you have international guests attending in which case it would be a nice idea to show them some of Melbourne while they are visiting. Venues such as Polly Woodside show off the Iconic Yarra River, or you could showcase the sparkling Melbourne city sky line at Richmond Rowing Club.
We are often hearing that company senior managers are real foodies that demand excellent catering! Food is often a deciding factor, so check if your venue will allow you to do a menu tasting if you are not familiar with the food.
If your guests don’t know each other, it is a good idea to include some entertainment to break the ice and get your guests mingling. Having ghost tours at Old Melbourne Goal are perfect for that purpose – no awkward silences here!
To some, CBD location is important as it provides easy access and convenient transport for guests. It pays to ask venues their proximity to transport – perhaps your perfect venue is only a short tram ride out of the CBD? If you have secured a venue for less than you budgeted for, perhaps you can now allocate funds to hire a bus. Work out where your offices are, where your guests will be coming from and how they will most likely get home – that way, you can narrow down the field even further.

Get in early
If you are looking at hosting your Christmas party on a Friday or Saturday evening, our advice would be to get in early! These dates will general book out earlier on in the year, with Thursdays also proving to be a popular choice. Events with larger numbers of 400+ guests should also be confirmed with your venue as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
