Find out how Eleni & Corey planned their wedding in weeks!
Last October we got a call from Eleni & Corey wanting to book the Richmond Rowing Club for their wedding – in five weeks time!
They were newly engaged and didn’t want to wait to get married, and why should they?! So we got into wedding mode, put together a luxe marble, gold and peony pink mood board for them and started locking in the vendors we needed to make the day happen!
Eleni & Corey’s wedding was truly special, and showed that you don’t need to wait 2 years (if you don’t want to!) to have a fab big day with some amazing suppliers.
Take a peek at their gorgeous photos by White Vine Photography as we turn it over to Eleni & Corey for some wedding planning tips.
We met at work in 2012, and begun dating in early 2013.
Corey continually chased, spoilt and surprised me (Eleni) with gifts and gestures. I finally agreed to go on a date with him after cancelling on him three times.
Soon after, I as good as moved in to Corey’s apartment and the rest is history.
Corey was planning to propose in Europe in December on a planned holiday. But after secretly looking at rings when I was away on a trip, he was weary of choosing a ring that I didn’t like or that wouldn’t fit and taking it to Europe.
He had selected two possible rings at Charles Rose, so (after asking my dad Steve for his blessing) he organised a lunch at our favourite restaurant to propose.
In the end he couldn’t bring himself to propose on a shared teppanyaki table! So we went to the QT rooftop for afternoon drinks and he completely surprised me with the proposal! It took a lot of convincing and a celebratory bottle of champagne for me to believe he was for real!
Corey they whisked me over to Charles Rose to pick a ring – and I just happened to choose one of the two he had in mind!
The wedding planning.
Nothing was too tricky! We booked the Richmond Rowing Club for November 18 (which was the only weekend date available for the remainder of 2018), and quickly found out that you had to lodge your Notice of Intention to Marry 30 days before your wedding! Our Celebrant, Melissa Polimeni, was fantastic to work with and ensured we signed the required paperwork with 3 days to spare. Phew!
Once we had a date we rang all our closest friends to tell them about our engagement, which they were all extremely excited about, and then to make these phone calls even better, we let them know our ‘wedding’ was in 5 weeks time!
Everything else came together really naturally, as if it was all meant to be. The hairdresser, makeup artist, entertainment and photographer we wanted to use all happened to be available.
We were very lucky the team at CNK were so supportive and helpful, suggesting a florist, and organising all the other details, including furniture hire.
Planning a wedding in five weeks was so exciting. It was so perfect to get engaged, and then celebrate with our wedding 5 weeks later. It just seemed like the natural progression.
I was really worried at the beginning, but now I cannot work out why people wait so long!
While I was wedding dress shopping I fell in love with a Nicola Finetti cocktail dress. It was the first dress I tried on, and bought it on the spot.
For the ceremony, I wore a full length tulle skirt from Designer Bridal House over the top and then took it off after our photos.
Short-lead wedding planning tips.
- Make sure you choose vendors (venue, caterer, florists, celebrant, photographer, entertainment, etc) that you feel comfortable with and trust.
- Don’t get caught up with the small things!
- Don’t overthink decisions, just go with your gut.
- The bride is always right!
With such a short time frame from engagement to wedding, I barely got to wear my engagement ring on it’s own! First it was being sized, then needed to be kept longer at the jeweller to be matched to fit the wedding band – in the end I only got to wear it for one week before the wedding!
Also, the holiday to Europe over Christmas that we already had planned became our first honeymoon. We are now planning for a second, dedicated honeymoon!
